Pre-soften the dry hair with a moisturizing conditioner, apply an ample amount on all of the hair avoiding the scalp. Cover hair with a plastic cap for 15 minutes.
If there are temper tantrums, try putting on their favorite cartoon/TV show.
- Remove cap and use a wide-tooth comb to comb through any tangles, starting from the ends working your way up to the scalp.
- Rinse hair with the warmest water. This is an important step! Rinse hair until it softens up! It may take 5–10 mins just rinsing — so get comfortable and RINSE!
Finger comb as you rinse, so the hair can stay untangled.
- Apply a moisture shampoo by distributing in the center, sides, front and back of the head.
Massage shampoo into the scalp using your fingertips and work it along the hair strands.
Don’t worry about the ends, they will get cleansed anyway during this process.
RINSE WELL
- Apply an ample amount of moisturizing conditioner mixed with serum to create that slip and slide effect — to make the detangle process a breeze!
ALWAYS FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS — never leave on longer than specified. It can weaken the hair.
Rinse well with lukewarm water until all conditioner is rinsed from the scalp and hair is soft.
Towel blot dry
Moisturize:
One of the most important parts of the afro hair routine is MOISTURE!
Just as you wouldn't give your child a bath without moisturizing them after, it's essential to make sure their hair is well moisturized after a shampoo.
The main point in developing a hair care routine with them is to avoid bad practices whilst keeping their hair clean, moisturized and easy to maintain.
This will allow their hair to grow healthy and strong.
Lack of moisture is a main reason for breakage.
Dryness is #1 in afro hair — it breaks easily.
Protecting your child’s hair by locking in moisture is KEY!
LOC Method: Liquid – Oil – Cream
Lock in that MOISTURE!!
- Section hair off into 4–6 sections
- First section: apply Strand Theory Hair Care Hydration Moisture LIQUID Leave-In spray, while using a detangle brush to brush through the hair from ends up
- Apply your hair OIL to the section and brush through using your detangle brush
- Next, apply your moisturizing CREAM and brush through with your detangle comb
- Twist, braid, or clip that section and move onto the next — repeat the previous steps
